Research Paper Referee's Sheet

This sheet is meant to guide you in the process of evaluating each paper. To do a thorough paper review, you are requested to do each of the following:

1.
Give the paper a score for each of the issues noted below. 1 is poor; 5 is excellent.
2.
Add comments to the author to the bottom and back of this page.
3.
``Red mark'' the paper, indicating typos, grammatically incorrect statements, misspelled words and sections/paragraphs lacking in detail and clarity.
4.
Turn in this evaluation form and the reviewed papers in an envelope with your name on the outside.
Evaluate these papers carefully and plan to read each paper two or three times. Not only will you receive a grade on how carefully you evaluated the paper, your evaluation will also be useful to the author in revising the paper.

Introduction and Abstract (1-5):

Does the introduction and abstract give you an overall sense of what the remainder of the paper will discuss? Does the introduction and abstract make you interested in reading the rest of the paper?

Technical Content (1-5):

Does the paper deal with its topic at a college-level depth? Does it indicate the author has a good understanding of the subject? Is the content of the paper original, or did the author copy too much from other sources? Is the content significant in relation to the design and analysis of algorithms?

Adequate References (1-5):

Did the author do a thorough enough study of the topic? Did the author cite at least 3 references? Are the sources easy to relate to the material discussed in the paper? Are the bibliographical entries complete enough so that a reader can find them? Did the author quote material that was directly taken from references?

Clarity (1-5):

Are definitions given before or at the time an unfamiliar term is used? Does the paper have a clear focus, and a strong sense of direction and development? Can you understand the paper?

English (1-5):

Are statements grammatically correct? Is the paper free of misspelled words and typos?

Length (1-5):

Is the paper double-spaced and between 8 and 15 pages in length? Does it cover each topic mentioned in the paper in sufficient detailed? Does it cover an adequate number of topics so that it gives the reader an overall understanding of the issues in the area?

Experimental Section (1-5):

Did the author add sufficient experimental results to validate his or her study? (If you can suggest other experimental results which may be interesting, please indicate in the comments section below.)
