HOLISTIC APPROACH TO DEVELOPMENT BY APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY IN SOUTHERN COUNTRIES

The AT holistic approach has promoted, over the years, in addition to the adoption of
technology appropriate to local conditions, people and environment, also people's
participation through Self Help Groups (SHG). The sustainability of a program may be
ensured only if there is an active participation of the beneficiaries right from its planning, to
its implementation, operation and maintenance, and monitoring.
