HOLISTIC APPROACH TO DEVELOPMENT BY APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY IN SOUTHERN COUNTRIES

By Dr. Costantino Faillace

Appropriate Technology in the New Millennium

With the fast changing political and socio-economic systems in many parts of the world, AT
will need to follow a dynamic trend to be appropriate to the world's changing conditions. The
creation of global AT networks is a first sign to adequate its activities in an efficient way to
meet the challenges imposed by the rapid socio-economic changes.

The end of the second millennium should be considered a transition time between the new and
the old world order. The collapse of the Berlin wall is the start of a new era, a new world
order. There are still too many walls firmly standing which need to be eliminated if peace is to
prevail! The concern about the prevailing world situation has in fact motivated the
organizers of this important meeting to invite so many world authorities from all over the
world to discuss some of the main problems threatening world peace.
