RE-ASSESSING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BUCKET PUMP - A SIMPLE WATER
LIFTING DEVICE FOR SMALL RURAL VILLAGES

By Dr. Costantino Faillace

Training in the Use of the Bucket Pump

At the completion of the installation of the bucket pump it is
essential to train villagers in the use of this simple device.
Women, in particular, at a timid initial resistance, show much
enthusiasm to operate the bucket pump as they consider it an easy
and nearly familiar tool. Anyhow some training is necessary so
that the equipment can be easily operated without incurring in
some wrong operation which could cause injuries. The bucket pump
is not appropriate for small children below ten years of age.
