| ABSTRACT The following paper was presented at the Indian Water Works Association - 30th Convention which occurred on 10-12 April, 1998 in Chandigarh, Punjab, India and is included in the proceedings of the convention. The paper discusses a simple low-cost water lifting device appropriate for small villages with the following characteristics :
The paper presents the performance results under different hydraulic conditions of the borehole drilled in Vasai, Bhiwandi and Wada Talukas in Thana District in the past six years by the Tribal Village Water Progam. All together 52 boreholes, with an average depth of about 90ft, have been equipped with the bucket pumps from 1994-1999 . The cost of a borehole equipped with a bucket pump averages about Rs 12,000 = $300US. The Scientific Committee of the India Water Works Association has recommended to the India Government that it use the bucket pump for villages meeting the above conditions. |
