Scott Tilley @ Florida Tech
Scott Tilley is Professor & Director of Software Engineering in the Department of Computer Sciences at the Florida Institute of Technology. He also holds a cross-appointment in the College of Business as a Professor of Management Information Systems. He is a Visiting Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. He is Principal of S.R. Tilley & Associates, an information technology consultancy based on Florida’s Space Coast. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Victoria. He is Chair of the Steering Committee for the IEEE Web Site Evolution (WSE) series of events, Co-Chair of the SDM-DS Editorial Board, and the
immediate Past Chair
of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Design of Communication (ACM SIGDOC). He is General Chair for the 24th IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM 2008), which will take place in September 2008 in Beijing, China.
Research
My main field of research is software engineering
in general, and system evolution in particular. My topic areas include program redocumentation, end-user programming, net-centric computing, reverse engineering
for program understanding, hypermedia, technology assessment, and Web site evolution.
More information about research
being conducted in the Florida Tech Software Evolution Lab (SEL) is available here.
I am currently working on a project called “Techniques to Foster the Adoption of UML Diagrams for Program Documentation,” which is funded by IBM Corp.
My previous project was called “Code Analysis for
Automatic Determination of Signal Paths.” It was funded by Bayerische
Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft (BMW Group) of Munich, Germany.
Teaching
I teach courses in areas such as multimedia technologies and programming,
software construction, software engineering, software evolution, software testing, information systems, and Web site
construction.
Courses
I am teaching the following courses in Summer 2008:
- SWE 5510: Software Maintenance & Evolution (graduate)
- SWE 5900: Special Topics in Software Engineering - SOA & Web Services (at Northrop Grumman)
